Ernest C. Ackermann, Professor of Computer Science, earned a Ph.D. (1974) and M.A. (1968) in mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, after receiving a B.A. (1967) in mathematics from Montclair State College (N.J.). A member of the Association for Computing Machinery, Dr. Ackermann is an expert on the Internet, the World Wide Web, and Unix.

He has presented several workshops on the use of the Internet to students, faculty, and other professional organizations. His tutorials and Web pages are referenced from websites throughout the world, and he has written several books on Unix, the Internet, and the World Wide Web. His textbooks are used by several hundred schools, colleges, and universities.

His recent works include Searching and Researching on the Internet and the World Wide Web, 5th Edition (2010) and Learning to Use the Internet and the World Wide Web With Revitalized URLs (2004). Dr. Ackermann has more than 20 years of experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining the computer systems, Internet services, and websites at the University of Mary Washington and other locations.
